As an artist and a generally creative person, it is alway fun to connect with others who pursue their dreams and passions everyday. I’m stretching myself this year and attempting a 12 month exploration into the worlds of other artists who inspire me with their drive to create and enjoy art. As I begin this journey amid photographing your families, I would love to get your opinions as to who you might like to see featured here ~ go ahead and send me a note or share with your friends. It isn’t a community if we can’t chat over coffee, right?!
First up is my aunt Char, who through my whole life I’ve known to have her hands in some awesome projects! From hats & mittens of all sizes, to basket weaving & quilting (along with countless other skills), she is certainly a wonderful business woman to look up to! She has always been a big supporter of my own craft, so it was an easy choice to choose her first in this new project of mine. I visited her in early December in between her crazy schedule in getting ready for local craft shows. I thought I might stay for an hour or so to take a few pictures and chat about her work. Over two hours later, I was pulling out of the driveway and on my merry way. Needless to say, time went by much faster than I expected!
Char always has great stories to tell and one of my favorites from that Tuesday afternoon is how she received a sewing book for Christmas one year as a little girl while her brother, my uncle Bill, got a bike. I laughed thinking about those gifts you get as kids thinking ‘Gosh… thanks, I suppose’, all while being so disappointed that you didn’t get what you were truly wishing for. The coincidence is that Char still has that book and keeps it close as she so passionately creates treasures on a regular basis now.
Enough chit chat on my part. Char answered a few questions I sent her way to share with her feature. I am so proud to have her as my first featured artist, her creations are truly wonderful and made with such skill. Be sure to check out her links at the end of the post and show her some love too!

When you were a kid what did you want to be when you grew up? Lawyer
What does a typical day of work look like for you start to finish? At this time of year it’s like putting out fires. I have a hard time saying no on special requests so every morning I have to look at new deadlines for projects and prioritize. I’m busy sewing before sunrise on most days and the lights go out at 8pm unless I have a deadline I didn’t meet that day.
Any favorite projects you’re currently working on? I just finished an ABC quilt that was a lot of fun.
How do you use social media and what is your favorite way to connect with your audience? I’m not the best at consistency with social media. If you don’t hear from me in a while you can bet I’m buried in work. Maybe I need someone to take over on that end. I love giveaways too, I need to do more!
How do you find inspiration? Inspiration is everywhere I look. I dream up new idea’s while I sleep. It’s crazy sometimes.
Who or where is your go to for creative criticism when you are questioning your work and why? My daughters, I know they will be honest with me.
What was the best piece of advice you ever got? Creativity is not alway perfect.
What’s your secret for productivity? I cut out multiplies. Even if I have an order for only one item I try to make extra’s.
